For my first post, I'd like to hear the edge-casers weigh in on when is a good time to buy or voluntarily gain a curse. I can think of two overall categories: I when a curse as such is the best card to obtain voluntarily gain, or buy ; and II when ANY zero-cost card copper, curse, ruins will do. Any suggestions? When the curse pile is low, you have played a single Goons and know that your opponent can play cursing attacks before you can play your own cursing attacks, you usually might not want to buy Copper in this situation for the VP, but since you're gaining the curses either way, you can at least negate the VP loss if you buy them.
Quote from: ErrinF on July 02, , pm. Category I 6 is just a special case of 1. You don't necessarily need Watchtower and you can do it on your own turn just as well as on a possessed turn. You're talking about Workshop here, so it's not like you're restricted to 0 cost cards. Copper, Silver, Estate and Workshop itself are already 3 unique cards that Harvest can flip. This is not to mention other dead cards that are likely to come into your deck, ranging from dead actions to other VP. With Ambassador, you can overwhelm an opponent who has lost the Amb war, sending over more Curses than they can send back at you.

My wife and played our first game last night and absolutely loved it!!! She told me this morning that it is far and away her new favorite game. Anyhow, We didn't get the curse card. It appears to be worth -1 VP and we assume you give it to your opponent.
But how much does it cost and how do you play it? The value on the card is 0. Also, in there was one "Trash" card, what the heck is that used for? And while I'm at it, it states that there are 25 groups of action cards, 10 cards in each action. Each of my action groups have 11 cards example, 11 Smithy cards. Is there supposed to be an extra or do I play all 11? Curse Cards enter play by either buying it or by the Witch card which give Curse Cards to your opponent.
The Trash Card is to keep the trashed cards from things like Mine or Remodel out of the game. The "extra" one is a blue back. It's there to be a randomizer for start up. I don't really see why it has to be a blue back and just not match the rest of the cards, but it's there. One of the cards in each set has a different colored back. However, the negative tends to be the lesser of its two drawbacks. Much more significant is that Curse is a junk card, which does nothing for you but takes up space in your deck.
For this reason, Attacks that distribute curses are usually best acquired very early in the game: a Curse that has been in an opponent's deck since turn 3 will bog down their deck all game, while one that is given out on the final turn will have minimal impact. Likewise, Curses will often be worth giving out even if trashing cards exist. Your opponents might be able to trash the Curses before the game ends to avoid the loss, but the short term damage of slowing down their draws by filling them with Curses will already be done.
As an example, Old Witch gives out Curses but also gives your opponents an opportunity to trash them, with your opponents frequently having few Curses left in the deck by scoring time. Curse counts as a pile when determining the end of the game. In games with a Cursing attack, the Curse pile often empties or is brought low, bringing the game closer to a three-pile ending. Players may also gain Curses intentionally in certain other restricted situations: for instance, Defiled Shrine gives a bonus for buying a Curse; and Curse can constitute an additional differently-named card to get from Fairgrounds or Museum.
Curse is the only card in Dominion that gives negative victory points. Until Empires , with the addition of Landmarks , it was also the only effect in the game that gave negative victory points. Curse is the only card type with a single representative, the only card with the Curse type, and the only card whose name is also a type. Pre-development, you could get Curses from the trash.
Also treasures. They changed it to, once trashed, gone forever.
